The Spiritual Exercises: A Scriptural Framework for the Spiritual Life
A five-day course on spiritual exercises designed to walk participants through the stages of the spiritual life. It’s an ideal resource for spiritual directors or any individual seeking a deeper life of prayer.
This course is designed to walk someone through the Spiritual Exercises with a scriptural framework. The course is designed to more fully understand the dynamic of the spiritual exercises, its goals, and objectives for the different stages.
Each day will include mass, meditations, teaching, time for personal prayer and reflection as well as small group discussions, to unpack your own interior experiences and learn from the experiences of others. We will also use role plays, case studies and film clips to enhance our learning. We hope to facilitate understanding and experiential knowledge of each of the stages/”weeks” in the spiritual life and how to accompany someone who is in those “weeks”/stages.
We will also cover the Story of Ignatius, history of the exercises, Ignatian rules of discernment, spiritual resistance, the role of desire in the spiritual life, listening skills, the Examen, prayer and journaling, how to help one to prepare for Spiritual Direction as well as the role of Supervision for directors.
